Every smile starts with an initial consultation!
The initial consultation is one of the most important steps in orthodontics. It is your introduction to our office and is the first step towards getting to know you and your personal goals for treatment. During your consultation, you will meet Dr. Tamburrino, Dr. Shah, and the orthodontic team. After discussing your orthodontic concerns, the doctors will do a screening to:
- Provide a comprehensive smile, bite, and TMJ assessment
- Determine whether orthodontic treatment is appropriate to help achieve your goals
- Educate you on the esthetic and functional benefits of orthodontic treatment
- Answer any questions you may have about orthodontic treatment
This visit will last approximately 30 minutes and can be scheduled to accommodate your family's busy lifestyle. Please click here or contact our practice directly at 609-799-4628 to schedule your initial consultation.
For your convenience, we have all our New Patient forms below. Please download, print, and complete the appropriate form(s) prior to your Initial Consult appointment. Thank you!
Following the initial consultation, the records appointment will be made. This visit is where Dr. Shah and Dr. Tamburrino gather the necessary information about your bite to determine the appropriate way to treat your smile.
This appointment will last approximately 45 minutes and, if time permits, can be scheduled to immediately follow the initial consultation.
At the conclusion of this visit, you will have the following diagnostic records:
- Impressions - Molds of your upper and lower teeth
- Facebow - Registration of the position of your upper jaw
- Articulated models of your teeth to evaluate jaw function
- Photographs of your teeth and face
- Lateral Ceph - A profile image to evaluate jaw and tooth position
- Panoramic Film - An image to evaluate tooth development and root position
- Tomograms – An image to evaluate the health of the TM (jaw) joints
- Hand/Wrist Film - An image of your hand to evaluate growth potential in children
- Periodontal (Gum) Examination for adults to evaluate the bone around the teeth
In the Princeton Junction office, all imaging will be obtained through a single iCAT scan.
Absolutely no part of the records visit will be uncomfortable, and only records that are necessary for an accurate and complete diagnosis will be taken.
Treatment Plan Consultation
Following the orthodontic records visit, the doctors will need time to analyze the information, so a separate treatment consultation visit will be scheduled. This visit will usually last 30 minutes. At this consultation, Dr. Tamburrino or Dr. Shah will review all of the records, treatment options, and proposed treatment sequence with you.
This visit is meant to encourage dialogue so there will be plenty of time to answer any questions you may have. While not required, if the treatment is for your child, he or she is encouraged to attend. The financial coordinator will review all insurance information with you at this time and payment plans and options will be discussed.
The appointment to begin orthodontic treatment may be scheduled at the conclusion of the treatment consultation visit.
What happens after the treatment consultation?
After your consultation, we will schedule your first appointment and Dr. Shah or Dr. Tamburrino will place your new orthodontic appliances. Depending on the procedure, this appointment generally takes 1-2 hours and our team will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible. Instructions and expectations will be reviewed following appliance placement.
Parents are welcome to stay in the office for the duration of their child’s appointment, but are free to run errands if desired.
Please click here or contact our practice directly at 609-799-4628 to schedule your initial consultation.
This is an exciting day for children, parents, and our adult patients as the journey to a great smile begins! This visit will last 1-2 hours depending on the procedure and will include appliance placement as well as extensive instruction in hygiene and care of your new orthodontic appliances.
Due to the time needed, this appointment must usually be scheduled during work or school hours. However, selected non-business hours appointments may be available.
For the success of your orthodontic treatment, it is critical that Dr. Tamburrino and Dr. Shah see you at regular intervals. These adjustment appointments vary from 10-30 minutes and will occur every 4-8 weeks depending on the procedure.
We respect your busy lives, school, and work schedules. Every effort will be made to accommodate you for these appointments during non-school or non-work hours. However, at times, it may be necessary to schedule these adjustments during the day.
Congratulations! This is the most thrilling part of treatment. Your appliances are removed and you can show your new smile to the world! This visit will take approximately 1 hour and, like the appliance placement appointment, must usually be scheduled during the day. At this visit impressions will be taken for your retainers to help maintain the amazing result!
It is critical for your treatment success to not miss your appointments and to be on time. However, we understand that “life happens.” If you're running late or need to reschedule an appointment, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.
Also, if you need to check on your appointment time, you can login to our website or call the office. We will send appointment reminders via e-mail and text messaging, so please provide this information when you are in the office!
Visiting the dentist during orthodontic treatment
It is essential that you continue to visit your family dentist once every three to six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
